VanDusen Botanical Garden Visitor Centre Design Presentation and Tour

Hello Folks,

The UBC ASHRAE Student Chapter is pleased to announce a grand showcase of design excellence through a presentation followed by tour of the VanDusen Botanical Gardens.

VanDusen Botanical Garden Visitor Centre
The focus of this presentation and tour will be the VanDusen Botanical Garden Visitor Centre, a LEED Platinum certified building completed in 2011. Designed through inspiration from an orchid leaf, the highly sustainable building truly reflects nature, producing enough energy on an annual basis to meet its own requirements. The project is also pursuing the Living Building Challenge – a certification program that addresses development at seven performance areas: Site, Water, Energy, Health, Materials, Equity, and Beauty.

The architectural design was completed by Perkins+Will while Integral Group provided mechanical, electrical and energy modelling consulting services in the design of this ‘living building’ with net zero energy and zero combustion energy plants.

The agenda for the presentation is as follows while the tour is scheduled to be arranged later in the semester:
  • Date: Thursday, October 22, 2015
  • Time: 5.30 pm - 7.00 pm
  • Location: Hugh Dempster Pavilion - Room 101 (DMP 101)
  • Presenters:
    • Architectural Design: Harley Grusko, Perkins+Will
    • Mechanical Design: Ken Newbert, Integral Group
    • Electrical Design: Gary Rhode, Integral Group
Refreshments and snacks will be served.

Looking forward to seeing you all at the event.

Cheers.
