International Student Energy Summit

This June, UBC is going to be hosting the International Student Energy Summit. It's a 3 day forum for students to discuss the sustainable energy future. If you're going to be in Vancouver during that time, I highly suggest you look into this amazing opportunity. The event has a history of outstanding speakers, such as Jeremy Rifkin (leading American economist and author of the Hydrogen Economy) as well as Vicente Fox (former President of Mexico). This year' speaker will be Dr. Rajendra Pachauri (Nobel Peace Prize winner and Chair of the Inter-Governmental Panel on Climate Change- IPCC). More details can be found at the ISES website - http://www.studentenergy.org/

Hillcrest Tour

Hi Everyone,

A while back we were fortunate enough to go on a tour of the Hillcrest facility in Vancouver. It was quite amazing how much has changed since one year ago when it was the Olympic curling venue. The new facility is going to be a major hub for community events. It will have a state of the art aquatics centre (which is currently operational), two ice sheets, a soccer pitch, and even a branch of the Vancouver Public Library.

I should definitely say thank you to Ian Harvey at the City of Vancouver for taking us behind the scenes to show us how the whole centre operates. He showed us all of the mechanical systems and equipment that keep the facility running. I've posted a slideshow with some of the pictures from the tour, hopefully it gives a good idea of the kind of stuff we got to see.
